Servings: 2 · Prep: 10 min · Cook: 15 min

Ingredients

Chaga Mushroom (Dried):
– 1 tbsp chaga mushroom powder or 1 small chaga slice (about 1 inch thick)

Chai Base:
– 2 cups whole milk (or oat, almond, or soy milk)
– 1 cup water
– 1 tsp black tea leaves (or 1 tea bag)
– 1 tsp ground cinnamon
– 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
– 1/2 tsp ginger powder
– 1/2 tsp black pepper
– 1/4 tsp cloves
– 1/4 tsp nutmeg
– 1/2 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional)

Directions

  1. In a small pot, combine the chaga mushroom, water, and black tea leaves. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  2. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture steep for 10 minutes, allowing the chaga to infuse its flavor and color.
  3. Add the milk and remaining spices (cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, black pepper, cloves, nutmeg). Stir well and continue to simmer for another 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and strain the mixture to remove the chaga and tea leaves.
  5. Pour into mugs and top with a drizzle of honey or maple syrup if desired. Serve warm.

Tips

  • For a stronger chaga flavor, use more chaga or let the infusion steep longer.
  • If using chaga slices, ensure they are fully submerged and allowed to steep for at least 10 minutes.
  • Adjust the spices to taste, especially the black pepper, which enhances the absorption of chaga’s nutrients.
  • Chaga can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or frozen for longer use.
